Swahili Chicken Curry
Swahili Chicken Curry Served With Fried Vegetable Rice


Goodness this Swahili Chicken curry is so delicious and very easy to make, pair this with your favorite fried rice and boom the family will be happy. Let’s get into the kitchen.


What you will need 


● 1 kg Chicken cut into 8 pcs 

● 1/2 kg potatoes peeled and halved 

● 50g tomato paste

● 2 tbsp Garlic and ginger paste 

● 1 bunch Fresh green coriander

● 1 teaspoon Crushed cumin seeds

● 1 teaspoon Black pepper

● 1 teaspoon Crushed red chili

● 1/2 teaspoon fresh Turmeric minced 

● 1 tablespoon Royco Mchuzi mix (chicken)

● Salt to taste

● 200ml Plain Buttermilk (lala)

● 2 tablespoon oil

● Juice of 1 lime


What to do 


▪ Heat oil in a wok and add the garlic and ginger paste, stir fry for few seconds. Then add crushed cumin, black pepper stir well. Go in with the potatoes mix well, Now add chicken, cook for 4 - 5 minutes the chicken will produce natural juices.

▪ Add fresh coriander and mix well.

▪ In a separate bowl mix tomato paste and buttermilk, salt, crushed red chili, turmeric mix well then add into the chicken bring to a boil until the potatoes are cooked. Dilute the Royco Mchuzi mix in 3-4 tablespoons of water and then add into the chicken mixture.

▪ Cook covered with lid till the chicken is almost done, and sauce becomes thick add lime juice cook until the liquid has reduced and sauce coats the chicken. Serve with fried vegetable rice.
